We have probably heard and seen John 3:16 hundreds of times. But how many times in the context of Christmas?
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. (John 3:16, The Message)
One of my favorite hymns is “Christmas Has It’s Cradle.” It has an old folksong feel and it’s an Easter song but I love the parallels it draws…
“Christmas has its cradle, where a Baby cried; did the lantern’s shadow show him crucified? Did he foresee darkly His life’s willing loss? Christmas has its cradle and Easter has its cross.”
For God so loved you that He sent Jesus for you…at Christmas and at Easter. In birth and in death, Jesus is the proof of His love for you.
When we wrap our hearts and minds around that truth…then we can truly have the Christmas Spirit.
