Suggestion BoxPsalm 106:1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Here are some ways to encourage the children in your ministry to be thankful – not only at Thanksgiving, but all through the year.

  • Ask every child to write out the things he/she is thankful for and wrap that list in a box or bag just like a gift. Encourage them to bring it on a designated Sunday. Spend time opening each of the gifts and thanking God for all of things that He has given. Remind the children that all of these things are the gifts that God has given them.
  • Have the children write an acrostic poem using the word thankful. Then come together and have everyone share and create a gigantic acrostic poem!
  • Encourage the children to write a thankfulness letter to someone in their lives that they are thankful for. Encourage them to tell that person why they are thankful that they are a part of their life.
  • Lead the children to think about times when things have been rough in their lives or a time when they didn’t get something that they wanted. Discuss how we can be thankful even in those times.
  • Have the children lead a whole church thankfulness effort. Pass out leaves to the entire church and have them write things they are thankful for. Then decorate the hallways in the children’s department with a whole bunch of thankfulness.
